There are few things worse than bad book clubs. The phrase itself conjures up sad visions of men in berets dissecting the finer points of bleak and depressing Russian literature in overly-lit coffee shops. Oh, the irony.
It’s high time we change all that. Empress Iron Ethel, (otherwise known as Heather) formerly and presently of Heavy Metal Science Club, invites you to join Cleveland’s premier non-pretentious book club the Official GeekCLE Book Club!
So, here’s how it will work: we’ll give you approximately one month to read the book before we meet up to crush some beers and get geeky with some book talk. Titles will range from sci-fi, to gaming culture, to graphic novels to science, to pop culture and beyond. Hopefully, we’ll learn some fun stuff along the way, meet new and interesting people and reaffirm that geeks is where it’s at. Long story short, expect shenanigans.
First up is Chuck Klosterman’s “I Wear The Black Hat”, a collection of essays about villains. We’ll all meet to discuss said essays at the end of August and who knows? Maybe, it will be more fun if you come dressed as your favorite villain. In lieu of a costume, sinister facial hair will be accepted.
Check out our group on Goodreads and in the immortal words of James Brown “please, please, please” feel free to make suggestions about future titles the GeekCLE Book Club should be reading.
