Once again it’s time for forfeit your wallet to Gabe Newell. In case you are unaware Steam is a digital distribution service for a large library of fantastic games. You can create a free account and download the installer at Steam’s Homepage. While I am not a huge proponent of DRM protected games, Steam’s DRM is rarely intrusive and leaves you with a digital copy of your game you can play on any computer once you log into your account to install and get your cloud-based save data. Aside from the organizational and social aspects of this service one of the highlights is the seasonal sales. Generally a good rule of thumb is to wait until a game is a Daily Deal or a community-chosen Flash Deal as these specials represent the lowest price a game will be sold for during the week long sale. If a game you are looking forward to is not currently a Daily or Flash deal, be patient as it might be the following day. If it never comes up as one, just buy it on the last day of the sale and you will ensure you pay the lowest price for the game. I will update this post daily with some of the highlights. Remember these deals expire at 10 AM PST (1 PM for us Clevelanders) the following day in most cases.
(Be aware of increased web traffic that may cause delays on the steam pages loading up)
Day 10 – 7/20/13
Saints Row: The Third: $4.99
For those who think the Grand Theft Auto series takes itself a bit too seriously these days, this game will be right up your alley. The open world game play, over the top action moments, and self-aware sense of humor really make the title stand out. The game mechanics will be familiar in the way a caricature is similar to its source material. The game also includes a “horde mode” style mini-game where you take on endless waves of enemies trying to survive as long as possible.
Counter-Strike Global Offensive: $5.09
The latest iteration in the popular series of team-based military shooters. A more deliberate, slower paced game than your normal shooter this title centers itself around objective based game play. While still competitive, this game levels the playing field between veterans and new-comers alike as each player is unranked and has access to all the same items.
Day 9 – 7/19/13
